Happy October!
Congratulations on making it to October! For the 1Ls, you have survived your first few weeks and even a couple of midterms. For my 2Ls and 3Ls, great job navigating school on top of clinics, externships, clerkships, and everything else. The work we do is not easy, so give yourself some grace and a pat on the back for what you have accomplished so far.
Last month we hosted our annual 1L Survival Guide, collected shoes for a nonprofit, had almost 50 people at our general body meetings, and closed off September with an incredible Boo at the NICU event where we made 40 costumes for babies and families at Arkansas Children's Hospital. I cannot thank you all enough for your enthusiasm and engagement. As we go into spooky season, keep up with your classes, be on the lookout for spontaneous study session pop-ups, and reach out to the AAWL community if you need help.
October is here, and that means midterms, fall weather, and the chance to celebrate together at the Boowen Halloween Festival. This month we are shining a light on Breast Cancer Awareness, honoring Mary Owen for outstanding community service, and gearing up for a Wizard of Oz-themed Halloween you will not want to miss.
AAWL is for everyone, and members of all genders are welcome at the table. Inside this issue you will find our October event, this month's birthdays, our awareness spotlight, and everything you need to stay connected. Grab a pumpkin spice and dig in.

Boowen Halloween Festival
Get ready for a spooktacular time! This year's theme is Wizard of Oz, so start planning your costumes now. We will also have a trunk or treat. If you would like to participate in the trunk or treat, reach out to Shakyla Hill at sdhill2@ualr.edu. More details coming soon on our socials and GroupMe.

Member of the Month
Meet Mary
Mary is a full-time 2L here at Bowen! She is from Little Rock but went to Fayetteville for her undergrad degrees in Criminology and Sociology (Woo pig!). Mary has loved getting involved with AAWL and is thankful to participate in opportunities close to her heart. As our Community Service Coordinator, Mary spearheaded the Boo at the NICU event, rallying volunteers and organizing everything from supplies to schedules. The result: 40 handmade costumes delivered to babies and families at Arkansas Children's Hospital with an incredible turnout.

Why law school: At college, I took a criminal law class and thought it was really interesting.
Fun fact: I love k-pop concerts!
Wear Pink This October
Honoring Pink, Our Awareness Color
The pink ribbon is the universal symbol of breast cancer awareness and the ongoing fight against the disease. This October, we honor all those affected: survivors, patients, and the loved ones who stand beside them. You may also see ribbon variations: pink and blue for male breast cancer awareness, pink, teal, and green for metastatic breast cancer, and hot pink for inflammatory breast cancer.
Wear pink to show your support all month long.
